The pursuit of mental health is closely linked to the advice and beliefs of the medical community. The problem is that some medical professionals are not capable providers of care. The keyword is "some". This is not an attack on the entire medical community. Our expectations of these people as a society are completely unrealistic. Who can do any activity throughout his career instead of making a mistake?
Instead, I am talking about danger, incompetence or ignorance. Doctors, nurses, psychiatrists, therapists – they are just people. People do stupid things for misleading reasons or simply simple, old-fashioned incompetence. None of us can look at the words of medical professionals on the surface. The interests of our personal well-being are too high. This is why everyone who receives care should be held accountable for understanding why they are doing something.
A good example comes from my recent interaction. A mother and father are trying to keep their unstable bipolar daughters stable. She has been in and out of the mental ward for six months. She is very unstable to the extent that she may pose a threat to herself or her family. The girl had seen different psychiatrists during that time. After her father's approval, her medication will change at the doctor's request every few weeks. Father does not understand mental illness or treatment function. Some mood-stabilizing drugs take 4-6 weeks to improve the level of treatment in the blood. He and his doctor are likely to improve her stability through frequent changes.
There is not enough time to determine if the drug is effective. They did not use the emergency mood stabilizer to let her through the toughest period, but completely changed the drug. Worst of all, one of the drugs may be useful to her. Now, she will only go back and say, "Hey, I have tried it, but it is useless," and it has not reached the point where she can tell if it is really effective.
The daughter and father blindly believe in the knowledge of these “professionals”. The truth of the problem is that the medical community is affected by the same meaningless waste as all other businesses. Some people don't know what they are talking about, some are incompetent, and some don't swear at all. Fathers don't have to go to the doctor to find the function of psychotropic drugs, and find that most of them need more working time than the time they give. This requires him to accept everything he may not know about treating mental illness. And I am sorry, but "like" doctors have no reason to think that they are capable.
I know that I have been in contact with many people in life, and these people have been very bad in life. I believe that if you think of your workplace, you can think of something yourself.
I know. It's hard to see the people you love have had such a difficult time. The desire to help is natural. The problem is that mental health is not provided overnight. Patience and navigation of rough patches are needed when they appear. Do you want to have the greatest chance of success? Educate yourself [or the person you love] about the condition and treatment. Always ask questions. Always avoid any "professionals" who will not openly answer your questions and help you understand them.
There are many wonderful, self-sacrificing, knowledgeable people in the field of mental health; but for how we pursue our mental health, we blindly believe that this risk is too high.
