In a previous article, I discussed how important it is to have a solid footwork foundation. It's time to expand your setup skills, including not just footwork, but also your hands.
There are three main principles to be aware of when setting up:
Your hands need to be soft and strong.
When the ball approaches you, your hand should already be on your head and your wrists slightly tilted back. Bump the ball by slightly bending the wrist and then straightening it straight to make the ball touch your hand. Use both hands to guide the ball to the batter you choose.
Keep in mind that there are very small differences between soft hands that can cushion the ball and illegally hold the volleyball for too long. If you have too many wrists and look like a ball, then you will be summoned and your opponent will get a point.
