NETA Certification Review – National Trainer Association Personal Trainer Certification

NCCA

Guess who is the latest NCCA approved certification? You know, NETA!

In the past few months, NETA has been recognized as one of the top certification programs for NCCA certification. Good news for us!

Certification

NETA has two certificates, personal trainers and group workout coaches. I will focus on personal trainer certification, but if you are interested in a group workout coaching certificate, check out the website. [This is very similar to personal trainer certification]

Personal trainer certification pursues my most valuable training aspect, which is actually the practical experience of their training! Although you don't have to attend any seminars or buy any materials to take the exam [unlike NASM], I believe this is a necessary part of your education.

The exam materials are very cheap. My weakness adds that all books total $80.

Reputation / popularity

NETA is new and not as recognized as long-term participants [ACE, ACSM, NASM, NCSF, NSCA]. People need some time to understand what NETA is, especially since it was renamed NDEITA not long ago. It's also a bit confusing with NESTA… Needless to say, the acronym soup mixes a lot!

qualified

In order to take the NETA exam, you must be at least 18 years old and have the latest CPR certificate. That's it!

examination

The exams are conducted at various test centers across the country and are called "Comira". This is good news! As I mentioned, there is no advance requirement for the exam in addition to the above. You do not need to purchase or take any NETA courses to take the exam.

Although I recommend getting at least books, you can really use their weekend workshops to really learn your stuff.

seminar

NETA offers a Personal Trainer Certification Seminar at a reasonable cost [$349 if you registered 30 days ago] and is available throughout the country on weekends.

It runs from Saturday to Sunday, equivalent to 14 CECs [for those who need a lot of CEC quick recertification!]

They also recommend purchasing $80 in reading materials and learning before attending.

cost

So far, they are not too bad in the cost department. This is a breakdown:

Workshop – $349 [early registration] to $389 [walking]

from

Separate exam – $249

from

Recommended Books – $80

from

Family Research Review – $39

These seem reasonable to me, especially since the seminar should be local to your area or, worst of all, this is a one night hotel stay.

legality

After passing the exam, NETA's personal trainer certificate is valid for two years.

CEC

CEC requires a 20-hour continuing education before you renew your certification. [Renewal fee – $45]

NETA also accepts almost all other NCCA CEC credits. Therefore, you can get a CEC course for ACE [and still use it to recertify ACE] and earn NETA credits. Very beautiful, right?

NETA does require that your 6 CECs come directly from NETA, but this is less than 40% of the requirements.

Check their website to verify that your CEC in other organizations will be counted, but their policies seem quite free. They are not trying to get every dollar from their members like some other certification bodies.

revival

Renewal is not too difficult, you include a copy of the CEC course [a copy of the non-NETA], a $45 fee, and a recertification document after the due date.

If the postmark time of the letter is later than the due date, the fee will be delayed based on the received letter. After 180 days, you cannot renew and you must re-certify.

Summary

NETA is a new player in the NCCA block, and it immediately gives it a lot of credibility, which was not available a few years ago. They seem to be really trying to expand their customer base, offering honest pricing, great learning opportunities and other amenities.

Although walking into the gym and saying that you get NETA certification may get some weird look, this certification will only be obtained when accepted. Together with another certification, NETA will be a great way to enhance your education and professional qualifications.
