The swimming pool is constantly being attacked by algae. Algae enter the pool from wind, rain, and even polluted swimwear. Typically, a normally recommended amount of chlorine or bromine is capable of killing algae upon contact with water. However, if the pool is stagnant for a long time, or if winter treatment is not properly performed, the algae may take over. If this happens, the pool may turn dark black or green and you won't even be able to see the bottom. The pool may need to be pickled to restore the original beauty and cleanliness. As a general rule of thumb, if you can see the bottom of the pool, you can usually bring back chemicals, vacuum and filter.
