The body needs many elements to function properly – in order to get proper nutrition. The most important is water, followed by carbohydrates, protein and fat. Each element has the function of maintaining human health, and excessive or insufficient of any one element can produce negative health results. Although there is one of the most important arguments, the simple fact is that we need to focus on finding a balance that meets the needs of the human body.

Diet is a major factor in maintaining a healthy nutritional balance. Although some nutrients can be obtained by eating nutritional supplements, the available foods should meet the normal needs of the body. By recognizing our nutritional needs, we can choose the food that meets these needs. Unfortunately, this skill is not always natural. Every consumer must take the time to understand the functions of the human body and which foods can make these functions work properly.

Only by properly meeting the nutritional needs can humans stay healthy and prevent disease. Only by recognizing that the human body is essentially an engine that requires a specific fuel can humans enjoy health. Vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, protein and fat are the fuels that keep the body running smoothly. By educating ourselves about which foods can provide these nutrients, our collective health can be improved and the quality of our lives improved accordingly.
