Long-term stressed people produce large amounts of in vivo steroids called cortisol. It affects fat distribution by depositing fat in the abdomen and visceral areas.

Abdominal obesity can also cause various diseases. To name a few, there are cardiovascular diseases, high cholesterol, diabetes and polycystic ovaries.
