Best Personal Trainer Certification (Part 3)

Professional certification for personal trainers and strength coaches: PICP

I just received the Poliquin International Certification Program [PICP] Level 1 Instructor Certification in New York City [$650, 3 days]. This is really good news.

I learned about certification through my mentor, Joe Dowdell. I believe his point of view, because he is very committed to continuing education and has received considerable respect for certification.

Charles Poliquin is a well-known power coach who has trained more Olympic athletes than any other power coach I can think of [except Mike Boyle].

If you read Part. In Part 1 of this series, you know that there are many excellent certifications, and everyone has no best certification. It all depends on who you want to work with and your career path.

However, if you want to improve performance with athletes, then NSCA's C.S.C.S is this certification. Mini-internship with athletes' performances [I have taken both internships and, to be honest, even though NSCA is the most respected, I feel that I have gained more practical knowledge from Poliquin and athlete performance.]

I like this certification a few things, I think it can improve something.

advantage

* Level 1 strength coach certification focuses on manipulating acute training variables [collection, representation, rhythm and rest] for efficient programming. These seem to be the basics, but no other certification covers it like Poliquin. Surprisingly, very few people really understand how to manipulate specific goals and movements during stress, rhythm and rest time. They also emphasize the creation of an accurate description of each exercise to ensure maximum amount of variation and adaptation [squat and barbell back shoulder width posture].

* I like how much research they provide as evidence, although they can do better, sum up. I found that the best certifications focus on one area. [Too many certifications try to be outstanding in all industries and eventually become unmanned owners.]

* Information can be easily transferred to the actual application, suitable for your general population of customers. If you want to learn programming, especially strength, strength or weight loss, this certification is good.

* They provide good methods and protocols for testing maximum strength, although some are incomplete [see below]. Based on this test, they provided a good formula based on the study to assess the balance of power throughout the upper body. [For example, if you lift xxx on a bench press, you should be able to use the 8.6% bench press weight for an 8 rm external rotation. If you can't, then there will be an imbalance, etc.].

* The course tutor is friendly, knowledgeable and generous.

* In addition to the final test, you must take the test before being accepted. I like this! Only loyal trainers appear, and they have a good understanding of the basic materials, so no one asks stupid questions.

Disadvantage

*One of the teachers did not understand BASIC biomechanics. Anyway, or we have an important missed communication.

* Some of the images in the manual are misleading and/or confusing.

* The small demo of stretching is just a waste of time, and the worst is misleading. Stick to what you are good at and leave it to the certification that focuses on it!

* We accepted the test of cluster training and German body training, which is very cool, but we just disguised it during the lecture. I want to spend more time on these specific programs, but there are a lot of good information about them online.

* Some of the topics in the manual may be better worded. Initially, they were well defined for different strength qualities [extreme strength, maximum strength, absolute strength, speed strength, strength endurance], but they were not so clear when they were mentioned later in the manual.

*When they chose the trainer to demonstrate the 1rm test protocol for bench presses, they were obviously negligent and did not follow their own methods. I chose a person who didn't seem to have a structural adjustment, then tested his limits and didn't ask if he had been exercising for the past 12 weeks [this is their own agreement].

* In addition, they should change their agreement and ask what kind of exercise they have done in the past 12 weeks, because a person may exercise for 12 weeks, but still not ready for 1rm bench press. Rule #1 has no harm in personal training. The trainer came the next day and could not attend some lifts. My understanding is that he has joint pain, not just muscle soreness. Not cool, no need. I later talked to another trainer who said he was injured in the PICP certification.

You can read the last part and say "Wow, I can't do this certification", but I think you should reconsider, this is a very valuable certification, only know your own restrictions, don't do anything you think is risky. Things [and staying in control! I know it's hard to have other trainers around.

We all have to do a 1rm test to gain experience; I chose to pull it up because I am a rock climber. I can do one pull-up, plus 90 pounds on my body, and the chin is over. There are a few exercises to choose from, so you should be able to find a practice that you feel comfortable with. If not, you can and should pass.

biology

Regarding biomechanics, one of the coaches mentioned that he did 1 and 1⁄4 in the bench press, and there was a quarter of the girl at the top of the motion, because this part of the action exceeded the triceps, and the girl cared about their back. looks great.

It’s cool with me. The instructor mentioned that he followed his program and practice very accurately, so I asked him if he had manipulated their intentions in the bar to overload their triceps?

In other words, you can use your triceps to push the barbell's friction, your hand won't move, but when the bar's force line [gravity] is combined, the force line caused by friction produces a different force line. As a result, the force angle of the shoulder and elbow joint rotation axes is changed. [Not a spelling mistake, the axis is the plural of the axis. Who knows?]

The intent is that you can make the lowest part of the triceps's bench press harder and the top of the chest is harder. Can you do this and still increase the maximum weight? No! Can you lift the barbell with your triceps only? No! But this is not my problem.

His answer is "I hope that you can do the chest with me at some point", as if who can be the most suitable person, what is the most problematic problem [it does not, hehe].

Shouting cowboy, first of all, I just ask a question, the second level, I am honored to work with you because you know a lot, even if you don't understand basic biomechanics, third, you are welcome to build a staircase in my empire state building Exercise with me. I can take off 86 flights in 15 minutes, I am happy to see your face, because you try to keep up, although in order to do this I have to slow down, and slow is not my style partner. Either way, these trainings won't solve any problems, I just try to learn from his perspective without losing my point of view.

His final answer was "Yes, you might do this, but why not do triceps exercise instead of modifying the bench press?" Really, we didn't start this conversation because you said you like to use 1 and 1⁄4 Modify a bench press to hit the triceps more? Hey! I am not going to push because it is not a seminar on biomechanics, and I don't want to be one of the trainers who receive lectures to prove their point of view. In any case, this tutor has great potential, but he is young and violent! I like him to say at least :]

I hope that you like this article and will consider this certification. In addition, if you want to be able to separate knowledgeable coaches, textbooks, and everyone else in the gym from biomechanics or exercise mechanics, you should strongly consider resistance training expert certification.

What is your favorite certification? why? What information can help you choose certification? Are there any topics you want to know? Will you participate in the PPIC certification?

Leave some questions in the comments and I will respond to you immediately. Tell me you are alive!

Until the next time, keep your business fit.
