Piloxing: Pilates fusion reduces exercise

The number of fitness integration courses has increased dramatically over the past decade. Just casually I can say six dozen: the core fusion of Piloxing, Piyoga, Yogilates, Walkilates, Polaroses and Exhale Spa. Now, in all possible worlds [yes, I teach philosophy] any fusion training should provide the best of both, while still respecting different disciplines. However, as is often the case, in practice, fusion classes often provide the best version of each discipline, and the two versions are unfair.

Take Pivexing of Viveca Jensen as an example. According to their website,

“PILOXING combines the power, speed and agility of boxing with the beautiful sculpture and flexibility of Pilates. Adds fun and sexy dance moves that reflect Viveca's personality… and weight gloves.”

Everything is so good so far, except that Pilates itself is a comprehensive body movement system that combines a mat and a specific device, and boxing also has a training body. Neither is a series of "actions."

Piloxing is also touted as more female-oriented than Pilates or boxing, but the roots of both are not true. Pilates was invented by the German Joseph Pilates at the turn of the twentieth century, and he was used as an enemy by the British during the First World War. His initial practice was for men who needed to stay in a narrow dormitory, and his clients later expanded to include ballerinas and other performers. Pilates is not a female-centric exercise. In this regard, boxing is not.

Finally, where is the “fun and sexy dance movement”, where is the weighted glove coming from? As far as I know, not Pilates or boxing. Although we did use arm weights and springs and weight to increase the strength and tone of the arm, there were no weighting gloves in any Pilates exercise. Aggravating gloves does not "maximize cardiovascular health." High-intensity cardiovascular exercise, gloves or no gloves can achieve this goal. The dance movement is to dance aerobics.

Is exercise effective? Will you adjust, sweat, and increase cardiovascular health and muscle strength? Maybe you can also walk, run, bike or box, dance aerobics and Pilates separately. Look, if you need the motivation and fun of exercise, the new fusion makes you feel moving, which is great. However, don't expect to get the same benefits or strength from fusion training, which may come from any form of direct training you like.
