Beauty: Skin Exfoliation

What is chemical skin peeling?

It is an umbrella term covering several different types of chemical treatments used to remove the skin's surface. A common misconception about it is that it involves some "peeling." The actual idea is to remove one or more layers of skin depending on the specific treatment involved. This treatment is most commonly used to treat the results of photoaging, or more simply any damage that occurs on our skin due to the sun's rays. It can also help reduce sunburn, wrinkles, acne and acne scars. All of this is possible because peeling promotes cell regeneration and collagen development, both of which improve the appearance of the skin.

How does chemistry skin work?

The treatment uses a chemical solution to dissolve the skin layer and stimulate healthy cell regeneration and rejuvenation. The solution is applied by the expert to the skin surface – usually the face, back or chest area and kept there for a predetermined period of time. The chemicals in the solution usually dissolve dead skin cells that remain on the surface of the skin, and deeper skin can go beyond it to eliminate deeper layers. Once the application process for the solution is completed, the clinician will remove any remaining solutions. These chemicals are also known as exfoliating or wound agents.

Chemical skin is reliable and painless for most patients. When the solution starts working, the milder surface skin produces a slight tingling sensation, while the deeper skin uses a solution with secondary anesthesia. This means that the solution used in deeper skin will be numb when the skin is working, preventing discomfort during this process.

Should chemical peeling be carried out?

Treatment can provide high quality results when used in combination with other treatments. This program helps to improve:

  • Sun spot
  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Acne
  • Acne scar
  • Uneven skin tone or uneven texture
  • Sun damage
  • Lesions and growth on the skin

What types of chemical skin are there?

There are many different chemical skins available, each offering a different type of chemical solution for the skin. The choice of chemicals depends on the treatment required. An excellent cosmetic expert will recommend a suitable peel to help with skin problems. The widely used types are:

  • Alpha-hydroxy acid [AHA] peel
  • Glycolic acid peel
  • Trichloroacetic acid [TCA] peel
  • Phenol skin

It is important to consult a cosmetic surgeon before performing a chemical skin stripping treatment. The goal of the program is to restore and improve the texture and appearance of the skin. When planning treatment, the doctor will consider a number of things, including skin type, actual problems, skin sensitivity and general health. The doctor and his team will then provide the necessary information to help understand the procedure.
