Type of thyroid test you should know

The thyroid gland is a butterfly-shaped gland that weighs less than an ounce. It is located at the front of the neck, directly below the speaker or throat, and has two projections, one on either side of the trachea. Thyroid examination is essential when thyroid function is abnormal. This is because the abnormal function of the gland disturbs the entire endocrine system. Reason for performing the test

Before you read the various types of tests for diagnosing a physical illness, you first need to know the reason for the test.

Healthcare experts arrange thyroid tests to assess thyroid work efficiency. The test also helps diagnose factors of hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. Hyperthyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid gland is overproduced. Conversely, hypothyroidism is a condition that lacks this gland. In both cases, there is only one from

Different types of thyroid examination

There are four main types of tests that help detect the function of this gland.

TSH test from

 – This test helps health care providers check the working status of the thyroid gland. It measures the total amount of TSH, which is the secret pituitary of the human body. It detects trace amounts of TSH in the blood to provide more accurate results. When TSH does not respond adequately to the pituitary gland, abnormalities occur in the body. Therefore, if the test leads to an abnormal conclusion, an additional check is needed to determine the cause of the problem.

T3 test from

 – A health care professional may recommend another type of examination of the thyroid gland, which is called T3 if he suspects hyperthyroidism. The test is performed when the level of the FT4 is normal. This is because in some cases, even normal FT4 levels can cause hyperthyroidism.

T4 test from

 – The body keeps T4 in two different forms:

  • T4 must match the proteins in the blood and body until it is stored. It requires T4.
  • FT4, also known as free thyroxine, is an active form of the gland that can enter tissue when needed.

High levels of T4 and FT4 cause hyperthyroidism, except for pregnant women. Pregnant women have higher levels of T4.

TSI test from

 – TSI or thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin is an antibody found in people with Grave's disease. It occurs when the body secretes an extra amount of the thyroid gland. The TSI test measures the level of TSI in the blood.

Anti-thyroid antibody test from

 – Anti-thyroid antibodies are present in the blood and help detect the presence of Hashimoto's disease due to thyroid dysfunction. The two main forms of anti-thyroid antibodies are anti-TPO, which attacks enzymes in thyroid cells; anti-TG attacks proteins in the thyroid gland, called thyroglobulin.

Various factors may affect the thyroid examination. This test is the only way to diagnose the presence of the disease, which occurs due to this abnormal function of the gland.
