Every year, the best diet of US News and World Report [1] is ranked by doctors, dieticians and dietitians. There are many factors in the rankings, such as heart and diabetes ratings, weight loss potential, easy to follow and the best plant diet. These different ratings are combined to provide their overall rating.
The first thing you noticed is to see how the fashion diet in the list is close to the bottom. Here is a list of the top five and bottom diets:
The worst:
fast foodfrom
– Pay attention to diet guidance when not fasting
Atkinsfrom
– Suitable for weight loss, not suitable for nutrition or heart health
raw foodfrom
–3 lose weight, but too difficult to follow
Dukanfrom
– There are no rules with many rules
ancientfrom
– It is difficult to follow without being proven and neglecting certain food groups
the best:
DASH Diet – from
[Dietary method of stopping high blood pressure] This begins to lower blood pressure, but is ranked high due to its safety, nutritional integrity and prevention of diabetes and blood pressure.
TLC diet – from
[Therapeutic lifestyle changes] was created by the National Institutes of Health. It is described as a complete diet, especially heart health. This is a do-it-yourself diet, so you only need to organize according to the meal plan.
Mayo Clinic – from
Developed in the clinic to make healthy eating a way of life. It has a good nutritional balance and safety, but not necessarily a weight loss diet.
Mediterranean diet – from
This diet is heavy, including vegetables and fruits, olive oil, fish, nuts and grains. This is a long-lived diet, but not necessarily suitable for weight loss.
Weight Watcher – from
The only commercial diet ranked in the top 5. This is a nutritious diet that is easy to follow and has group support to encourage weight loss.
What I found interesting is that cancer prevention is not part of the ranking criteria because it is the second leading cause of death in the United States [first in heart disease]. Plant-based diets help prevent cancer because many of them are, but you may need a more specific diet. For example, we know that onions, mushrooms and cruciferous vegetables provide more cancer protection than other vegetables. Therefore, adapting to a cancer-specific diet is better than a good diet.
After studying the details of these diets, I found that DASH is similar to the Mediterranean diet, and they pay great attention to whole grains and vegetables. I personally follow the Mediterranean diet because my ancestors have a history of cerebrovascular [stroke] and I like the freedom it provides. I encourage you to choose a diet based on your genetic predisposition. So take a moment to find out your family history to help determine your direction. Let your diet be specific to your genes. L.
