The purpose of repairing yoga is to release any tension present in the body through props and longer postures. While other types of yoga, such as Ashtanga, are more focused on thermal building sequences, the purpose of aging is to replenish body and mind through slow and simple postures. The holding of the pose is usually longer than the normal posture in the class based on vynasa, lasting about 5 minutes.
Restorative yoga does just that; adjusting mental and psychological through static exercises. This type of yoga is different but appealing because the intention is to be more aware of the state of mind rather than the state of mind. The energy normally consumed in a "flowing" course is used in restorative courses to focus the mind on any tension or stress that relaxes anywhere in the body. The purpose of the conservatives is to provide a more therapeutic way of relaxation, often eclipsed in a more energetic yoga style. Breathing means deeper, soothing the nervous system and cultivating more self-awareness.
Many times [like most things in life] we think we must push to the extreme with a mentality of “no pain, no gain”. Restorative yoga brings more connections and mindfulness to the moment, and anyone can practice it, especially those who are recovering from an injured or high-stress environment. It also pays special attention to any areas of the body that may hold tension and do not know such things as chin, wrists and abdomen. Props used by the conservative class can include: blocks, pillows, belts, blankets, and pillows. The block can be used under the legs to release any tension that may occur in the bound angle pose while using the strap around the torso and the top of the foot. It is also possible to place a piece above the leg below the lower back for release in the tibia.
Restorative Yoga invites you to be your own guide to keep yourself gentle through slow, discreet exercise and breathing. In the fast-paced environment we live in today, relaxation exercises are essential to finding the balance of mind, body and spirit.
